UPPF COLOR PPF is the Cobia Colors line: a coloured paint protection film built on the same self-healing TPU base as our clear films, with the colour layer sealed beneath the Platicoat topcoat. It changes the car's finish and protects the paint underneath in a single layer.

Because it is a protective film first, it is heavier and more impact-absorbent than a cosmetic wrap, and the factory paint stays untouched beneath it.

The two products do different jobs. Cast vinyl wrap is a cosmetic finish, usually PVC-based. COLOR PPF is a protective film with a colour finish, built on a self-healing TPU base and run at a heavier gauge than typical wrap vinyl.

In practice that means COLOR PPF absorbs stone chips and swirl marks that vinyl would transmit to the paint underneath, and light scratches in the topcoat close with heat. Vinyl is the cheaper option and comes in a wider range of specialist patterns and textures. If the goal is appearance alone, vinyl does that job; if the goal is appearance plus paint protection, COLOR PPF is the product designed for it.

No, when it is installed and removed by an authorised installer. The adhesive is designed to release cleanly from cured factory paint, and while the film is on the car it shields the paint beneath it.

Two caveats are worth knowing. Paint that has been resprayed or touched up may not be fully cured, or may not bond as well as factory paint, so tell your installer about any previous bodywork. And film left well beyond its service life becomes harder to remove cleanly.

Up to 10 years with regular maintenance, which matches the limited warranty term. Actual service life depends on climate, how the car is stored and washed, and how much direct sun and road debris it takes.

Cars kept outdoors in strong UV and heat sit at the shorter end of that range. Garaged cars washed with a pH-neutral shampoo sit at the longer end.

Three things matter most: wash it regularly with a pH-neutral shampoo and a microfibre mitt, have an authorised installer inspect it once a year, and keep film edges free of trapped grit. A film-safe ceramic coating is optional. It adds gloss and makes cleaning easier, but it is not required for the film to perform or for warranty coverage to apply.

Your installer provides the aftercare instructions specific to the film fitted to your vehicle.

Wait 72 hours after installation before the first wash, so the adhesive can fully cure. After that, hand washing is the recommended method: a pH-neutral car shampoo, two buckets, and a clean microfibre mitt. Touchless automatic washes are acceptable. Avoid brush-type automatic washes, and do not aim a pressure washer directly at film edges.

Installation is through an authorised UPPF installer. They will assess the paint condition, confirm the colour against a physical sample rather than a screen, agree the coverage (full car or specific panels), and quote the work.

Ask to see the film on a sample panel before committing. Colour reads differently over different base paints, and a sample against your own car is the only reliable preview.

Yes. COLOR PPF accepts ceramic coatings that are formulated for use over paint protection film. A coating adds gloss and makes the surface easier to clean. It does not change the film's self-healing behaviour, and it does not alter the warranty terms.

Use a coating your installer confirms is film-safe. Some coatings intended for bare paint contain solvents that can haze a TPU topcoat.

Damaged COLOR PPF is replaced rather than repaired, and replacement is done panel by panel, so a single damaged panel does not require re-filming the whole vehicle. Light surface scratching in the topcoat self-heals with heat. Cuts, tears and impact damage that reach the adhesive layer need the film on that panel removed and re-applied by an authorised installer.

One limitation to be aware of: replacement film can differ slightly in shade from film that has already spent time on the vehicle, because of production batch variation and weathering. On a highly visible panel, ask your installer whether re-filming the adjacent panels will give a closer match.

Yes. UPPF COLOR PPF carries a limited 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects: yellowing, blistering, cracking and delamination.

This is defect coverage. It does not cover damage from road debris and stone chips, accidents, improper washing, chemical or environmental fallout, or installation faults. Coverage requires installation by an authorised installer and registration of the film's roll number. Your installer provides the full written terms at handover.

Both are the same protective film with a different surface finish. Clear PPF is transparent and keeps the paint's original gloss. Satin PPF has a matte topcoat that turns a gloss finish flat.

Protection is equivalent: same TPU base, same chip and abrasion resistance. The practical difference is repair. Satin cannot be polished, because polishing burnishes the matte texture into shiny patches, so damaged satin film is replaced rather than corrected.

Not difficult, but the rules are stricter than for gloss. Wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and a microfibre mitt as normal. The satin texture hides light dust and minor imperfections well.

What must be avoided is anything abrasive or gloss-enhancing: no polish, no compound, and no wax or sealant intended to add shine. These leave permanent shiny patches in the matte surface. Use products labelled satin- or matte-safe, and clean bird droppings and tree sap promptly, as a textured surface holds them slightly longer than gloss.

Yes, within limits. The Platicoat topcoat is elastomeric, so light scratches and swirl marks close as the surface returns to shape. Warmth speeds this up: direct sun, warm water, or a hair dryer held at moderate heat and distance.

What self-heals is damage confined to the topcoat. Cuts that reach the TPU layer or the adhesive will not close, and neither will impact damage or deep gouges. Those need the film on that panel replaced by an authorised installer.

Use the two-bucket method with a pH-neutral car shampoo and a soft microfibre wash mitt. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a clean microfibre towel. Work from the top of the vehicle down, and rinse the mitt often so grit is not dragged across the film.

Avoid solvent-based cleaners, abrasive polishes, and brush-type automatic washes. Keep pressure washer nozzles away from film edges and at a sensible distance from the surface.

It depends on the car and how it is used. PPF makes sense where the paint is expensive to repair, where the car covers motorway miles that throw stone chips, or where resale value matters and you intend to keep the car several years.

It is harder to justify on a car with low resale value, one that is mostly garaged and rarely driven, or where the budget would be better spent on paint correction first. A partial front-end installation covers the panels that actually take stone chips at a fraction of full-car cost, and is the sensible starting point for most owners.

Not when it is removed properly and within its service life. The adhesive is formulated to release from cured factory paint, and an installer removes the film with controlled heat.

The risks are specific rather than general. Film left well past its life becomes brittle and its adhesive harder to release. Paint that was resprayed, touched up, or already failing can lift with the film. And heat-gun removal by an untrained hand can damage both film and paint. Have it removed by an authorised installer.

Typically 5 to 10 years. UPPF films carry a limited 10-year warranty against manufacturing defects. The range is wide because service life is driven by conditions more than by the film alone.

The main factors are UV exposure and heat, washing method, and how much road debris the car takes. A garaged car in a temperate climate washed with a pH-neutral shampoo reaches the top of that range. A car parked outdoors in strong sun and run through brush washes will not.

Touchless washes are acceptable. Brush and cloth washes are not recommended: the brushes drag grit across the film, which dulls the surface over time and can lift edges.

Hand washing with two buckets and a pH-neutral shampoo remains the best method. If you do use a touchless wash, keep high-pressure jets away from film edges.

Usually, yes. Small bubbles and hazy patches are normal immediately after installation. They are moisture and solvent from the wet-application process, and they clear as the adhesive cures, typically within a few days and occasionally up to two to three weeks in cooler or more humid conditions.

Bubbles that remain after a month, or that contain visible debris, are an installation issue rather than curing. Return to your installer, who can re-lay the affected panel.

Only partly, and it depends on the scratch. PPF is applied over the paint as it is, so it does not remove existing damage. Very light swirl marks and shallow surface scratches often become less visible once film is laid over them, because the film fills and levels the surface optically.

Deeper scratches that have broken through the clear coat will still show, and in some cases the film makes them slightly more noticeable by adding gloss around them. Paint correction before installation is the correct sequence if the finish has existing defects.

Light scratches in the topcoat close with heat and usually need nothing more than a warm day or warm water poured over the panel. A hair dryer at moderate heat and distance speeds it up. Do not use a heat gun on the film yourself, as it is easy to overheat and distort it.

Scratches still visible once the panel is warm have gone through the topcoat into the TPU. Those do not self-heal and cannot be polished out. Ask your installer to assess whether the panel needs replacing.

It helps, within limits. PPF absorbs the gravel strikes and light brush contact that would otherwise chip paint, and it is genuinely useful on rocker panels, front ends and leading edges of a vehicle used on loose surfaces.

It has a ceiling. It will not prevent dents, and a sharp rock at speed or a hard scrape against a boulder or tree will cut through to the paint. For heavy off-road use, treat PPF as a way to keep everyday abrasion off the paint rather than as physical protection.

Only marginally, and it is worth being clear about why. PPF is thin and flexible. It absorbs abrasion and spreads impact energy, but it does not stop the panel deforming. A door edge striking with any force will still crease the metal.

What it does prevent is the paint chip and scratch that normally comes with a ding, which keeps the damage to a dent rather than a dent plus exposed paint. That matters for corrosion and repair cost, but it is not ding protection.

Hydrophobic PPF has a topcoat that repels water rather than letting it sheet across the surface. Water beads and rolls off carrying dirt with it, so the film stays cleaner between washes and dries with fewer water spots. On UPPF films this comes from the Platicoat topcoat, and the Hammerhead series is hydrophobic across the range.

It is a surface property. It makes cleaning easier but adds no impact protection, and the effect gradually reduces over years of exposure. A film-safe ceramic coating can restore some of that behaviour.

Paint protection film is a transparent thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film applied over a vehicle's painted surfaces. It absorbs impact from stone chips and road debris, resists staining from environmental fallout, and its topcoat closes light scratches when warmed.

It serves two purposes: keeping the original factory paint intact, which protects resale value, and reducing the cosmetic wear a car accumulates in normal use. It is not armour, it will not prevent dents, and a hard enough impact will still mark the paint beneath.

Yes. Full-body coverage is a standard installation and gives uniform protection and appearance across every painted panel.

It is worth weighing against partial coverage. Most stone chips land on the front bumper, bonnet, wing mirrors, A-pillars and the leading edge of the roof, so a front-end package delivers a large share of the practical benefit at much lower cost. Full coverage makes most sense on high-value cars, on unusual or expensive paint, and where you want no visible difference between covered and uncovered panels.

Yes, this is the primary reason PPF exists. The film forms a durable barrier over the paint, and its thickness and elasticity absorb and spread the energy of a stone strike that would otherwise chip the clear coat.

Coverage is not unlimited. PPF reliably stops the small, frequent chips that accumulate on bonnets, bumpers and mirrors at road speed. A large stone at highway speed can still mark the paint through the film. Full-front coverage is the usual specification for cars that see sustained motorway use.

UPPF film is supplied through authorised installers and is not sold as a DIY product. Correct installation needs a controlled, dust-free environment, pattern-cutting software, and wet-application technique. The common failure modes of self-installation are trapped debris, lifted edges, and stretch marks, none of which are covered by the warranty.

UPPF's limited warranty applies only to film installed by an authorised installer. Your local UPPF distributor can direct you to the nearest one.

Broadly yes, though the term is dated. “Clear bra” comes from the vinyl-covered bras once strapped to the front of cars, and the name carried over to the first clear films, which were also fitted to the front end only.

Modern PPF is the same idea in a different material: a self-healing TPU film that can be applied to any panel or to the whole car. If someone quotes you for a clear bra, they usually mean a partial front-end PPF installation.

PCU is a type of TPU, not a separate or superior material. As a raw material, polycarbonate-based TPU (PCU) tests better than standard aliphatic TPU on hydrolysis and heat resistance, but worse in cold, and those lab differences do not automatically make a better finished film.
